BIG NEWS, FOLKS: Rat City Rollergirls is now 18-and-over!

The Rat City Rollergirls tryouts are scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 17 at 9:30 a.m., and there could be a crowd — Seattle’s premiere roller derby league has lowered its minimum age and is now allowing women 18+ to tryout. For more information on tryout day, including other league requirements, what to bring, and how to prepare, please visit www.ratcityrollergirls.com/aboutus/tryouts. Rat City is holding two pre-tryouts open practices, and we highly encourage you to attend so you can get a feel for what the big day will be like — on Monday, Sept. 5 and Monday, Sept. 12 from 8:30-10 p.m. at the Rat’s Nest.

Rat City’s changing age minimum is a reflection of the burgeoning Northwest junior derby scene, meaning many potential under-21 tryoutees are already veteran derby players who previously had few organized roller derby options between the ages of 18 and 21. Because this is a new step for Rat City, the league asking that any 18-20 year olds who plan to try out provide RCRG with two letters of reference from coaches (preferably at least one from a coach), employers, or teachers.

Whether you’re a former teenage roller derby star, or were a rink rat growing up, or a high school athlete, or you’re just a chock full of moxie and a desire to do it, we’d love to see you at tryouts!
