An action packed weekend of derby awaits Seattle. This Saturday, the Rat City Rollergirls have their last bout of the season at Key Arena. The June 5th bout will determine the 2010 home season champions, complete with bragging rights and tiaras — you absolutely don’t want to miss it. Derby Liberation Front will try to ground the Throttle Rockets for their first win of the season in the grudge match (first game) while the Sockit Wenches and Grave Danger face off in the long-awaited rematch to prove once and for all which team is top dog for 2010 (second game). Earlier this season, Grave Danger edged out the Wenches by a mere handful of points, so it promises to be an exciting game.
And if you’re feeling generous, show us your cans! That is, bring along a non-perishable food item for our canned food drive. Rat City Rollergirls will be collecting canned food and nonperishable items for the Ballard Food Bank and the Queen Anne Helpline. We will be giving the 1st 150 fans at each bout with a food or nonperishable donation some SWEET Rat City swag. In addition, The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Abbey of St. Joan are selling special roller derby-themed CHAMPIONSHIP BINGO cards, and all of our fans are invited to play for a chance to win awesome prizes. Look for the Sisters’ table on the KeyArena concourse to buy a bingo card, or an autographed Anya Heels poster! All proceeds from bingo and poster sales go to help Lambert House. Then, catch the sisters after the game performing at The Funhouse!
Then on Sunday, the Rat City All-Stars take on Texas Rollergirls, the founding mothers of modern day roller derby, in a WFTDA-sanctioned bout on Sunday June 2nd at 2:30PM. Although the bout is closed to the public, never fear, live coverage of the bout (both video and boutcasting) will be brought to you online by Derby News Network.
