Height: 5’6
Favorite Position: Jammer: I love the all-around mental and physical test of jamming. It pushes me to the max!
Blocker: As a blocker, I like to play on the inside line or next to the inside line holder. When I jam, I always try to trick blockers into leaving the line and sneak up the inside, so when I block in that position, I am extra aware of holding my ground. I do not like to be fooled.
Likes: Skating and trying to do tricks on my roller skates. Coaching skill or strategy practices or RCRG camps and clinics. Rat City GREEN. Playing at the Key. French fries and beer after games. Working out on and off the track with my teammates. Good coffee. Fast Girl Skates.
Dislikes:
Injuries: I sprained my right knee (PCL) in 2008. While I was injured I did physical therapy and lifted weights for my upper body. When I returned to play, I was stronger and very quickly better than before I had been injured.
In 2009 I separated my left shoulder in a game. It happened in the 4th jam and I finished out the game, which was pretty dumb. It took about a month to heal, and for a long time after, I had a knob on my left shoulder where my collar bone stuck up too high.
I was out for much of the 2011 season due to a back injury from a car accident not a cool derby injury.
Motto: Push yourself to be the best you can be and that will make you a competitor. Be a good sportswoman.
Favorite Music: I’m not super into music…a lot of it just gets stuck in my head. I do like The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Ladytron, Pedro the Lion, Florence and the Machine, and other predictable picks.
Favorite Drink: I like beer a lot. And coffee.
Awards: 2010 Sockit Wench MVP
2010 Nominee for Derby News Network Rookie of the Year
Bio: I started playing derby in late 2007 in Tacoma with the Dockyard Derby Dames. I had played soccer most of my life and I missed the competition and camaraderie. I fell into derby at my local rink. I didn’t know how to skate and I had never seen derby. I didn’t know there were derby names and I didn’t understand that the league had four home teams. I wore rink skates, borrowed pads, and a bicycle helmet with a big reflective triangle on it. Thanks to a lot of great coaching and better players I could emulate, I got better at the skating and the sport. When I finally picked a derby name, I settled on Pain Goodall.
In 2008 I saw the WFTDA Championship Tournament in Portland. That really opened my eyes to a whole different level of derby. Watching those powerful, graceful, amazing derby players, I wanted nothing more than to play at that level.
In 2009, almost a year after Championships, I transferred to Rat City. I was ecstatic to be drafted by the Sockit Wenches. I had to change my number, so I decided to change my name to Jalapeno Business as well. I still go by Pain.
At the first opportunity, I tried out for the All-Star team. I didn’t make it until the beginning of the next year. I had to work really hard to be competitive at the All-Star level. My first All-Star game kind of shocked me–it was so much harder than I expected!!! I’ve been working hard ever since, and I hope to keep my spot on the All-Star Team for a few more years now….
